The cash value of the benefits received (read: stolen from other people through the mechanism of “voting”) by a non-working single mother of two is more than $46,000 per year.  The “negative income tax” column is the so-called “earned income credit,” wherein people below a certain income level get a payroll tax credit even though they paid no income tax.

This report was not prepared by the radicals at the Tea Party, not by Grover Norquist, nor by any other evil, biased, uncaring “conservative” group.  So, why ARE you working?  You can get a house, food, child care, and even an Obamaphone (formerly the Clintonphone, and soon to be free high speed internet ), all paid for by other people under color of law.  And all you have to do is vote for it.  “If I help him, he’s gonna help me.”

Full report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare can be read here.

There is, of course, a larger question here: is this moral?  If government is brute force, which it undeniably is, then is it moral for some people to use force to live at the expense of other people?  Didn’t we, according to our public school history classes, fight a civil war to end exactly that?  If you find those questions uncomfortable, then try this one: if it is NOT moral, and whether or not you believe you are “helping” people or actually hurting them by making them dependent; if your morality is important to you, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?  Is it moral for you to do nothing about your morals?
