In an interview with VQH and the Fairfax Free Citizen in his Capitol Hill office on July 24, Congressman Tom Price (R, GA) described the content and status of House Resolution (H.R.) 2300, a Republican alternative to Obamacare that he has proposed in the House of Representatives.

For nearly 20 years, Dr. Price worked in private practice as an orthopedic surgeon. He was first elected to represent Georgia’s 6th District in November 2004. Congressman Price has steadfastly introduced variations of his current House Resolution 2300, Empowering Patients First Act, into numerous Congresses.

This is the first of two articles that summarize his comments in response to questions  posed to Congressman Price.

  1. What are the prospects for the House bringing H.R. 2300 to a vote? How many Congressmen are behind it?

In this Congress, it’s not possible that H.R. 2300 will be brought to a vote. The recalcitrant bunch in the Senate led by Senator Harry Reid simply refuses to engage in a positive dialogue about the kinds of positive solutions. The Republicans look forward to winning the Senate this fall. Virginia has role to play in those elections. Once that occurs, Congress can then have an honest, open, and productive discussion about reforming healthcare.
