Suzanne Scholte, Republican candidate for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, scored a resounding success by numerous measures in the first of a series of Town Hall meetings she plans to host over the next few months before the November elections.
- The meeting at the Accotink Academy in Springfield, VA, drew a crowd of approximately 100 people, much larger than most Town Hall meetings held by federal and state office-holders and political candidates over the past couple of years.
- Invited guests Congressmen Joe Pitts (R, PA-16), the Chairman of the Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee, and Thomas Barker, former Acting General Counsel of Health and Human Services (HHS) Department and General Counsel of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), provided informative insights and commentary on the state of healthcare and health insurance both during their introductory remarks and in response to questions from the audience.
- Ms. Scholte demonstrated poise; a personable, charming presence; and a willingness to engage with attendees, including those who voiced angry and emotional frustration with the problems associated with Obamacare.
- Attendees paid rapt attention to comments and answers presented by the speakers and aggressively posed meaningful questions, clearly confirming that Ms. Scholte had selected a pertinent and controversial topic for her first Town Hall meeting.
It proved to be a good night for Ms. Scholte and her campaign. More Town Hall meetings such as this one might cause her opponent, Congressman Gerry Connolly, who does not hold such open meetings, to have to rethink his strategy… Continued
