The Tax Increase Con Game

By |2019-05-11T16:12:47-04:00June 24th, 2011|Categories: Blog|Tags: , , , |

Leftist policies are often (and correctly) described as “tax and spend.” After the stimulus bill passed, though, some flipped the phrase to “spend, then tax,” anticipating that the Left would ultimately demand higher taxes to reduce the gargantuan deficit they created (and we opposed). We now have proof that the change in terminology was correct as well: [...]

Why is the budget not a “budget?”

By |2019-05-11T16:12:48-04:00June 7th, 2011|Categories: Blog|Tags: , , |

VA BUDGET QUESTIONS by Tom Cranmer - Why is the budget not a "budget?" It is more of a forecast of revenues and expenditures. - Why are expenditures self-adjusting? By law they have to be balanced with revenues. In 2010 VA had a $400 million surplus. The Sunshine Review reported the "Revenue Stabilization Fund has shrunken from $1.19 billion in 2006 to $295 million in 2010." - What are the biggest tricks in the budget? To delay funding $600 million [...]

Mark Obenshain: Update on the Legislative Session

By |2019-05-11T16:12:49-04:00February 28th, 2011|Categories: Blog|Tags: |

Received Via Email: According to the calendar, today is the last day of session. And it would be, too, if we had a budget. With the clock ticking down to zero, however, it looks like we're going into overtime. We will take up a few bills in conference today, but the budget towers over every other consideration, and if we don't finish today, we will be back soon to get the job done. For now, I would like to use [...]

F-35 “Alternate Engine” Vote

By |2019-05-11T16:12:49-04:00February 15th, 2011|Categories: Blog|Tags: , , , , , |

Call Your congressman and tell them that in this time of economic fraud/waste/abuse that we don't need more. Much has also been made of the threat of engine-related groundings. In fact, there are no documented instances of fleet-wide groundings in the past 30 years. Such talk is a scare tactic. In addition, an alternate engine won’t help the industrial base. GE is the largest military engine manufacturer with sole-source positions on the F/A-18 and several thousand Black Hawks and Apaches. [...]

Cutting Spending…Military Spending Too

By |2019-05-11T16:12:50-04:00February 15th, 2011|Categories: Blog|Tags: , |

There is a war even within "conservatism", it surrounds spending cuts for the Military. Sometimes trimming the fat can be a good thing. Just ask Oprah. In all seriousness, isn't it time we look long and hard at spending cuts for the military? If we are serious about getting rid of fraud/waste/abuse in government then we can't leave out one of the largest budget items on the list. Currently the Military is debating the "alternate engine" for the F-35. A [...]
